Pamela + Daniel :: Cheeseburgers and Clowns
International Weddings , September 9, 2014
P+D’s wedding was quite an adventure. With the rain in Montreal coming and going, here and there, we were constantly moving inside and outside trying to catch any brief moment of dryness.
After the ceremony at Westmount Park United Church it was pouring. We had to postpone the family portraits and wait a little for the rain to die down. It eventually did and we headed straight to Westmount greenhouse. When it wasn’t raining we did some portraits outside, then headed inside when things got a little too wet. It eventually got to the point where the rain wasn’t stopping. So I had the idea of heading to Place des Arts.
I’ve always loved the design and art in the underground pathway below Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier. It was always in the back of my mind as a great rainy day location for photos. Unfortunately, when we got there it was packed with people. There was a festival and a line up for a show in one of the theatres. When you’re a bride wearing a white dress, it’s not hard to draw attention. It’s understandable. But when a quartet dressed in clown suits start to serenade you and dance around you, it can get be a little much. But P+D were troopers and we got some cool shots. Some unique photos that you wouldn’t think of for a wedding day. And of course some unforgettable memories that you’ll laugh about when your older. When P+D saw my sneak peek, Daniel immediately told me it was all worth it. I was glad to hear it. Sometimes a wedding day is an exercise in problem solving. I’m always up for a challenge!
After some burgers and nuggets we headed to Le Crystal where they had a traditional tea ceremony, followed by the family portraits. P+D put some unique personal touches to their reception, providing a twist to several wedding traditions.
a) The Guestbook: they had a guestbook that consisted of a large photo cut up into squares for people to sign and placed back into it’s numbered slot in a frame. It created a large photo of the couple filled with signatures.
b) Getting the B+G to kiss: they constructed a large die with each face representing a different action, one being a kiss for the bride and groom. Against all odds, just about every roll ended up on the “kiss” side.
c) The Garter toss: the garter was attached to a soccer ball for Daniel to kick to the single men. No one tried to catch it. haha.
d) Photobooth: their photobooth was a self run iPad app! I haven’t seen this before, but it worked amazingly. I have to get the name of that app.
e) First dance: after a short slow dance they broke out into a choreographed sequence they have been practicing for months.
All together, P+D made for one memorable wedding … for themselves, for their guests, and for me.
