Jackie + Jonny | An Elegant Royal Affair
International Weddings , May 29, 2012
The time has finally come. My first wedding of the season! I was getting antsy waiting for this one. It’s been months since I shot a wedding and I was starting to really miss it. I was dying to get out into the sun and get creative … and this was the perfect wedding for me to start with.
Jackie put so much of herself into every detail of this wedding. It also helps that she is surrounded by the greatest support cast of friends whom contributed in many aspects. I was constantly curious about who did each detail, expecting a vendor’s contact, but always got an “oh, that’s my friend”. She was surrounded by talented people doing her hair, makeup, flowers, and decor. To top it all off, Jackie made her own brooch bouquet (you’ll see it below); it took her days, but ooooooo-eeeee it looked awesome! It was the heaviest bouquet I ever had the pleasure of holding. Luckily, Jackie has the strength to handle it ๐
Jackie and Jonny met while backpacking in Europe. Their ties to Europe strengthened as Jackie attend school in Scotland while Jonny was in school in France. Although they now live in Ottawa, their ties to Jonny’s hometown the UK manifested in a Royal theme throughout the wedding day. Whether it was top-hats and tails, or the double decker bus, everything had an majestic flair to it.
I started the day with the ladies as they cracked jokes while getting ready (some inappropriate, haha). Neville lended his support over at the fella’s place. We had the pleasure of witnessing a Coptic Orthodox wedding ceremony filled with colour and details, including the appropriately royal crowns. We then took a ride on the double decker bus downtown and ended the evening at the perfect venue: the National Gallery of Canada. There was a lot of crying and even more dancing (including some krumping!).
This was probably the most unique father-daughter dance I’ve ever seen. They started with the traditional slow dance, then unexpectedly broke out into a choreographed YMCA/ChickenDance/Thriller/Apache/etc dance. The crowd went crazy and there is even a youtube video of it from someone’s cell phone.
I want to thank Neville for his support assisting me this evening. Couldn’t have done it without you bro!
Jackie and Jonny, it was kismet that we found each other. From our first photoshoot to your wedding day, I always felt like I was just hanging out with friends eating Tiger Ice Cream ๐
You two are the greatest!!!!
