Andrea + Shawn | Hey Ya!
International Weddings , July 5, 2012
Andrea and Shawn are such a kind soft-spoken couple that I really enjoyed watching Shawn sing out to Outcast’s “Hey ya!” (see the photo of him with his hands up). That’s part of the reason I love photographing people dancing at the end of weddings, things get a little crazy … but I’m getting ahead of myself.
Andrea and Shawn‘s wedding was extra special for me. It took place in the same church I got married in not too long ago. It felt all too familiar, yet very different. Your wedding day flies by so fast that it feels like you are just watching a movie of yourself going through the motions. As a spectator, I felt like I was soaking it in a little more, seeing it from my guests’ perspective. Not the same of course, but seeing things from the other side was definitely interesting.
A+S are a laid-back couple and they put together a relaxing schedule on their special day. Don’t get me wrong, there was a lot on the menu for the day, but it didn’t really feel like it because they were on the ball every step of the way. I started in the morning at Andrea’s house while Gabe joined Shawn at his place. Andrea was all smiles, seriously, one of the most chipper brides I’ve seen so early in the morning. After a pre-noon ceremony at Young Nak Presbyterian Church, everyone headed to Wasabi for lunch (man, we have never felt so fed at a wedding before, just non-stop food! Usually wedding day is fasting day for me! haha). We then headed to German Mills Settlers Park for some bridal party photos. Finally we went over to the reception hall at Shangri-La where they first had a Chinese tea ceremony, then some photos in Andrea’s hanbook (traditional Korean dress) during the cocktails, ending with dinner and dancing.
“Heeeeeeeey yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!”
The wedding felt like a real church effort as most of the vendors are also member of Young Nak. Music by Woo-Hyun, videography by Cristian and John of Foosball Films (see their video clip below! I have a cameo at 4:27, haha), and all the coordination organized by Ashley and Grace of Life is Eventful.
All in all a great day with two great people. Enjoy all the travels you have coming up and your new life in Ottawa (not far from Montreal … let’s grab some brunch!).
